Rotary Valentine fundraiser goes virtual amid COVID-19 surge

Jacksonville Noon Rotary Club will adapt its annual Valentine’s dance fundraiser to an online silent auction this year, canceling plans for an in-person dance as COVID-19 cases surge across the region.

It is the second year the club has opted for a virtual event.

“It goes against our Four-Way Test,” Valentine dance committee chair Samantha Boston said, mentioning one of Rotary’s mission statements. “I personally didn’t want more patients in Scott’s hospital.”

Boston’s husband, Scott Boston, is president and CEO of Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. 

Among questions on Rotary’s Four-Way Test are “Is it fair to all concerned?” and “Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”


The dance committee unanimously voted in favor of prioritizing safety and canceling the in-person event, Boston said.
