COOKSON – On Sept. 9, more than 100 teams took to the waters of Tenkiller Lake angling for cash and prizes in the second annual Cherokee Nation Holiday Bass Fishing Tournament.
In addition to bass, the teams reeled in cash and prizes totaling more than $10,000. The big winners were James “Tyson” Gourd and Anthony Pritchett, who came in first with a three-fish limit totaling 10.30 pounds.
“We’re just weekend amateurs who love to fish,” Pritchett said. “It’s a lot of fun. Actually, this is our first tournament this year because our boat’s been down.”
Their largest fish was 4.25 pounds, caught by Gourd, a Cherokee Nation citizen.
“I was just being the net guy today,” Pritchett joked.
Lane Grogan and Kade Stacey from Tahlequah High School’s fishing squad teamed up with their fathers this time around.
