Western Kentucky student Jonathan Brian killed during Bass Master College fishing tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Hilltopper community is in mourning after the loss of one of their students.

On Jan. 25, the Western Kentucky University Bass Fishing Team was competing in the Bass Master College Series at Lake Murray in Prosperity, South Carolina. Kentucky Christian University’s Bass Fishing Team released a statement in support of the WKU community, remarking that two boats collided at the tournament.

In a news release, the Newberry County Coroner’s Office said that the crash happened around 1:04 p.m., and both WKU students involved were taken to an area hospital. On Jan. 30, Jonathan Brian, 21, of Shelbyville, was pronounced deceased.

The coroner said that their office and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will continue to investigate the incident.
