SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WBOY) — Another West Virginia fishing record has fallen in 2024.
Lauren Noble, of Letart, WV, caught a 10.60-pound, 30.20-inch bowfin on March 12 while fishing on the Ohio River in Mason County, establishing a new record for weight, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) announced Wednesday. Donald Newcomb III still holds the record for length of 32.25 inches that he established in 1994.
Noble’s catch is the third state record broken so far this year; records for tiger trout and redbreast sunfish were broken in February. A record–breaking blue catfish was also caught in December 2023.
