In April 2023, the Operation Blessing of Johnson County hosted its annual Bass Fishing Tournament at McGowan Valley at Lake Whitney. Twenty-three teams participated in the tournament.
Out of those teams there was a tie for first place, resulting in two teams sharing the top spot. They each caught 16.09 pounds of bass, and a third team secured second place.
“The excitement of the event was amplified by the impressive catch of the biggest bass weighing in at 9.11 pounds,” according to an OBJC press release. “Fishing tournaments often bring together a group of fishermen to showcase their skills and patience with a bit of bait in reeling in the largest and heaviest catches.”
