BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This past weekend out on Lake Barkley, a couple more local bass fishing teams advanced to the state tournament.
Franklin-Simpson High School had a pair of boats qualify at the regional tournament, including the girl’s region champions Makenna Cook and Addie Gregory.
The girl’s weighed in at 7 lbs. and 8 oz to take the top trophy for the first time in school history.
And on the boy’s side, Kody Alexander and Cooper Tyree qualified after weighing in at 12 lbs. and 7 oz.
Ahead of the state competition, both teams spoke on making it this far, and what it means to them.
“This is the first trophy, I think, for Franklin in a case for fishing,” Cook said, “and I’m just glad that it’s us, because another ironic thing is that it’s our first year on the team, too, which I think is amazing.”
“We’re kind of like role models, I feel like, because we were the first girls on the bass team and to win something,” Gregory said….
