A 12-year-old boy from the San Antonio area reeled in a record-breaking catch last month at Calaveras Lake.

Colt Franke caught a 33 1/2-inch long blue catfish that weighed 24 1/2 pounds while fishing at the lake, which is about 20 miles from downtown San Antonio. His catch broke the lake’s junior angler blue catfish record, that had just been set the month before.

Although the fish in the previous record was longer at 33 1/2 inches, it weighed only about 22 pounds, according to Mitch Nisbet, a fisheries biologist with Texas Parks and Wildlife.
