Becoming a successful professional bass fisherman was always at the front of his mind as Patrick Walters made his way through Holly Hill Academy and the University of South Carolina. But not even in his wildest dreams could Walters imagine the kind of success he has enjoyed in 2023.
Walters fished nine Bassmaster Elite tournaments this year, placing third in the Angler of the Year race with four top-10 finishes, including his second Elite Series career win on Aug. 27 on the St. Lawrence River in New York. He earned $239,000 there.
He also finished in the top 10 in the five National Professional Fishing League tournaments he fished, winning on the Santee Cooper lakes on May 27 and again last weekend, winning on Georgia’s Lake Lanier. Despite missing an NPFL tournament because of an Elite Series conflict, he finished fourth in the Angler of the Year race and won a NPFL high $239,000.
