Major League Fishing tournament underway in Sturgeon Bay

STURGEON BAY (WLUK) — Dozens of professional bass fishermen are taking to the waters around Sturgeon Bay because of COVID-19. The virus canceled their scheduled stop on the Major League Fishing tour, and now, those anglers are in Door County.

In a steady Friday morning rain not long after daybreak, pickup trucks and trailers are leaving the Sawyer Park Boat Launch. The 2020 Major League Fishing Tour Series Season Championship is underway. Competitors have the option to start at Sawyer Park, or drive to other boat landings in the tournament area.

“By allowing the anglers to do that, it really makes for a more safer environment, because they’re not having to make a long run from here. If you want to go way away to do it,” said Michael Mulone, Major League Fishing Senior Director of Events and Partnerships.
