Livingston County anticipates increased state funding, opportunities for veterans | Local News

GENESEO – Livingston County is anticipating $100,000 in funding from the Governor’s budget through the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer to Peer Program fund to help local veterans.

The money is provided to all counties in New York, and with an expansion of funds from Operation Green Light, the budget director for New York State was able to expand funding and have this additional funding included in the state budget.

“It is more driven by the veteran community,” said Livingston County Director of Veteran Services Jason Skinner.

Skinner said the funding will be used to hire someone to work with the veterans and veteran groups to host events for veterans.

The goal is to help reduce suicide rates among veterans. Livingston County had the highest rate of veteran suicide in 2017, at 82 per 100,000, or 28.5 veteran suicides in a single year.
