The Grant County Bass Fishing Team is 11 tournaments into their 13 tournament schedule for the Kentucky Student Angler Federation (SAF) team trail.
This is a big weekend for the team as they head to Lake Cumberland April 25-27 for the regional competition. The goal is to finish in the top 20% that make it to the state tournament at Kentucky Lake, said the team’s coach, Jason Elam.
The team only began in October, 2022. “We have come a long way in a short period of time,” he said.
According to him, the school was approved to have a team the year before, but “no one stepped up and did it.”
At the time, current team member Hunter Lilly approached Elam about coaching but a busy schedule hosting tournaments and the illness of his mother prevented him taking on the added commitment.
