BAY CITY, Mich. (WNEM) – Anglers were out on the water on Friday, June 7 for the 2024 Strike King Bassmaster College Fishing Tournament.

Officials said almost 200 teams were competing, potentially boosting business in the Bay City area.

Glenn Cale, the tournament manager, said this is a great place to fish.

“This is our third year coming, bringing the high school and college here. And it’s a great fishery. It’s one of those hidden gems. It’s starting to get some recognition, but it’s really a hidden gem. So, we love it,” Cale said.

The 2024 Strike King Bassmaster college series is in Bay City this week.

Cale said the Saginaw River and Saginaw Bay are great places to catch bass.

“2,200 pounds of fish, weight, came off of this river yesterday. So about 22 miles long is what I’m being told, so, double that down to about 44 miles, we had almost 200 teams in here yesterday that pulled 2,200. That goes to show you how healthy this fishery really is,” he said.
