Roy Isaac of Albany said he saw a state fishing record coming.
For the past few weeks, he has been fishing off a marina dock at Sleepy Hollow Lake in Greene County. Every weekend, he’s been catching bigger and bigger crappie. Some were 1 pound, then 2 pounds and a 3 pounder. He went out again with his son, determined to catch an even bigger fish and possibly a state record. And he did.
Isaac landed a 4-pound, 7-ounce white crappie using 4-pound test line. He used a shiner as bait and had a single split shot on the line. The 19-inch fish was certified that day at Blackhorse Farms scale. After filing out the paperwork, a state Department of Environmental Conservation staffer examined the fish, and Isaac was informed that his fish was a new state record for a white crappie. Congratulations Isaac.
