North Newton’s Frank Haidusek overcame a strong charge from a pair of Top Secret Jig Company teams at the Kansas Crappie Trail event April 18 on Perry Reservoir.
Haidusek, a retired Air Force veteran who owns and operates Cleared Hot Fishing guide service in southern Kansas, posted a 10.62-pound bag, including the big fish at 2.03 pounds, to capture the victory, edging out Top Secret pro staffers Todd Morstorf, of Topeka, and Tony Niemeyer, of Gardner, in second place with 9.80 pounds. Topekan Dustin Hobbs, a native of Hays, placed third with 9.72 pounds and survived a strong push from new Top Secret co-owners Dylan Faulconer, of Eudora, and Allen Miller, of Edgerton, who finished fourth with 9.63 pounds, giving the Kansas bait company two teams in the top four.
Haidusek said he was using a prototype HH Rods and Reels 13.5-foot Warpig and 150 series reel with a pink, quarter-ounce Mad Crappie Jigs jighead and a ProTuff Baits Stryker in silver and chartreuse.
