SYRACUSE – Many of the best teenage bass anglers from across the state will be competing in the NY B.A.S.S State Fair High School Classic fishing tournament set for Aug. 28 on Onondaga Lake.
The tournament, set for 5:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that day, will feature two-person teams that will be fishing to qualify for the B.A.S.S. National High School Championships. The weigh-in ceremony will be held later that afternoon at the New York State Fairgrounds, with the anglers arriving under a police escort.
The teams will be competing for trophies and fishing equipment. The competition is restricted to anglers going into 8th grade and up to 12th grade this fall. The top two teams will qualify for the nationals, set for July 2022 on Lake Chickamaugua in Dayton, Tenn.
The festivities for the Aug. 28 competition will actually begin from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the evening before with a pre-tournament banquet/meeting at the New Life Liverpool Church, at 4617 Wetzel Road.
