CASPER, Wyo. — Over 180 kids, many with families in tow, had registered during the first hour of the annual Free Fishing Day at Yesness Pond Saturday, part of a statewide event during which no license purchase is required.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department stocked the pond beforehand with about 1,500 trout, most from the Speas Fish Hatchery.
The pond has bluegills, Snake River cutthroat trout, sunfish and channel catfish. Most of the trout were 8–12 inch “catchables,” but there were also some “enormous” brood stock measuring around 20 inches, WGFD Public Information Officer Janet Milek said.
The 23-inch catfish stocked last year is probably still out there too, living a happy life in the pond, Milek said.
