Johnson County anglers ready for regional bass-fishing tournament | Sports

Several Johnson County high school anglers are set to compete in Saturday’s Texas High School Bass Association regional tournament at Lake Ray Roberts.

Teams from Cleburne, Grandview, Godley, Joshua and Burleson qualified for the West Division regional tournament. To qualify for regionals, a team or solo angler has to be ranked in the top 50% of their respective division after five regular-season tournaments.

The Texas High School Bass Association began in 2013 with humble beginnings. The first year, the THSBA had 80 boats with around 130 fishermen in the entire organization. Now, there are nine separate divisions in Texas with a little more than 2,800 anglers competing throughout the state. In the last two years alone, the THSBA has had to add three new divisions to keep up with the sport’s growth throughout the state.
