Gator Country Adventure Park is hosting its first catfish tournament, and fishers from across Texas are invited to participate.
The competition will run from Jan. 14 to Jan. 17. Anyone with a valid Texas fishing license is invited to register themselves and their friends or family. Children also are welcome.
“That’s what this is all about,” said Gary Saurage, co-owner of Gator Country. “We’re hoping that adults will get the kids involved.”
Teams of up to four people can register for $100 per team. The registration fee provides the earnings for the winners — at least $500 for the biggest catfish.
Besides bringing in the biggest fish, the winners have to play fair. They must fish in public waters and within the bounds of the law.
“You got to follow the rules of the state government,” Saurage said. “And (you have) to be at the weigh-in on time.”
