Bass fishing tournament aims to stock fish in Lake Jacksonville amidst funding drought

In an effort to keep bass stocked within Lake Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Bass Club is putting on a bass fishing tournament today that aims to raise funds for the purchase of new fish.

Jacob Traeger, president of the Jacksonville Bass Club, explained that the idea for the event came when he had heard that the state would not be providing funds to stock the rearing pond with bass. While he had no expectations for what the turnout might be, Traeger said that the registration numbers have been great.

“I really didn’t know what to expect with it,” Traeger said. “I didn’t expect the turnout we had with it. We have money past what I had ever imagined. We’ve also had some individual donations.”

The 30-boat maximum tournament will take place from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Lake Jacksonville today. Though pre-registration was preferred, Traeger said that latecomers wanting to participate may be able to get…
